ABOUT NEXUS:
NEXUS/Foundation For Today’s Art supports the exploration, presentation and consideration of experimental artwork produced by emerging artists. The NEXUS co-operative, comprised of Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artists, challenges artistic traditions, investigates new mediums, repurposes older concepts, and facilitates public conversation regarding the meanings and methods behind today’s art.
JUROR:
Gabriel Martinez, a Cuban-American native of Miami, Florida, works largely with photography, performance and installation. Martinez was a Pew Fellowship in the Arts recipient in 2001 and was a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship recipient in 2003. He has received two Individual Artists Grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Martinez attended the Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting in 2003, and received his MFA from Tyler in 1991 and BFA from UF in 1998, both in Photography. Martinez held the position of Director of Graduate Photography Studies from 2004 to 2007 at the University of Pennsylvania and is presently full time Senior Lecturer at PennDesign and the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Photography Program for the Department of Fine Arts. Martinez’s work is represented by Samson in Boston where he had his first solo commercial gallery exhibition entitled “Self-Portraits” (catalog) in November 2007. His next solo exhibition at Samson is scheduled for 2011.
ELIGIBILITY:
Artists over 18 years of age. MEDIA ACCEPTED: Books, digital media, drawing, installation, mixed media, painting, photography, prints, sculpture, works on paper
EXHIBITION CALENDER:
December 27th / deadline for application January 8th / notification of accepted artwork February 2nd — 5th / art work arrives February 10th — March 5th / duration of the show February 10th / opening reception JPEG: mail, to NEXUS/foundation for today’s art, CD of works. Please supply size and media, and, if desired, brief descriptions.
LIMITATIONS:
All 2D work must be framed with secure hanging devices ready to hang, 3D work must have instructions for installation. All work must fit through a 7’ x 7’ door. NEXUS reserves the right to reject work that differs from submitted images.
FEE:
A non-refundable fee of $30.00 for 3 submissions, plus $5.00 for each additional art work submitted. Checks are to made payable to “Nexus Foundation for Today’s Art”.
TERMS:
Nexus will take 30% on sales, including multiples.
ENTRIES:
Save digital images as standard JPEG files on one CD or DvD. Save as: RGB color. sized at least 800 x 800 pixels, not exceeding 1600 x 1600 pixels, minimum of 300 dpi, Mac and PC compatible. Name format for each JPEG should read: FirstInitialLastName.Image#.jpg (Example John Adams first submission will jadams.image1.jpg) Label CD with your full name. CDs or DvDs will not be returned without return postage and return envelope.
DELIVERY AND RETURN OF WORK:
Work may be hand delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in a re-usable container with return shipping prepaid. Works will be returned in the same manner as delivered or via UPS/USPS. All work must arrive at Nexus by the specified date. Accepted work will remain on the display for the duration of the exhibition. Work may be picked up in person March 5ht and 6th between 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm.

- CD/DVD of art work with artist’s name.
- SASE self-addressed stamped envelope for return of CD
